36 Years of Help from Witness Lee, Lowell Booth

In 1963, after 2 years of Bible school, I attended a training given by Witness Lee in Altadena, California. I was 22 years old. As I listened to this elderly brother speak on various portions of the Bible, I realized that his exposition of the Bible was the clearest I had ever heard. The many loose ends remaining from Bible school began to come together. Now after 36 years of enjoying Witness Lee's ministry I realize he has opened every book of the Bible to me. He loved to point out Christ, the Triune God, and God's economy, which is His eternal plan, in every book of the Bible. As a result, I have found myself enjoying the Lord more and more.

Witness Lee expounded the Bible in such a practical way. I got a lot of practical pointers for living my human life from him. For example, when he covered chapters 3 and 4 of John he pointed out that as a man the Lord was careful about appearances. He was free to talk to Nicodemus at night and in a closed room but he talked with the woman at the well at noontime in a public place. After pointing out this difference, Witness Lee made the comment, “Never be in a room alone with the door shut with one of the opposite sex.” That word preserved me as a young man, and later, as a father, I passed this Christian wisdom on to my daughters.

Another practical word I got from him was: In the world today you need the top education. Go to college, then graduate school. I took his word and went through optometry school. I've been practicing optometry for 30 years now.

It was in the church in Los Angeles that I met my wife. The personal word Witness Lee gave us at our wedding was from Genesis 2. God put Adam to sleep in order to produce Eve. Adam's sleep was a type of Christ's being put to death on the cross in order that something could come out of Christ, thus producing the church, His bride. Applying this to our human marriage he told me to let the Lord put me to sleep so I would sleep through all my wife's shortcomings. Then we would have a happy marriage. The testimony of both of us is that we love the Lord and each other more now than we ever have before. Recently we celebrated our 30^th wedding anniversary. With each succeeding year the Lord gained us more deeply for Himself.

In conclusion, I can say that Witness Lee's rich and balanced ministry of the Word, the life-supplying meetings of the church and the fellowship and love of the other believers were the means the Lord used to supply us day by day with Himself as life.
